Hand Quilting Workshop

On Sunday, October 6 from 1-4pm, I'll be teaching an introduction to hand quilting at the beautiful Rare Bird Preserves space in Oak Park, IL.

In this workshop, we'll learn and practice each step of the quilting process, including design, marking, basting, hand stitching, and binding, to make a beautiful mini quilt that can be used as a trivet or displayed with an optional hanging loop. The skills you’ll develop with this approachable project can be applied to any quilted item you can dream up, from pillows to garments to full-sized blankets.

The cost of the workshop includes all our materials, including linen/cotton fabric, cotton batting and thread, and optional leather hanging loops, as well as a quilting tool kit for you to take home. I'll share all my best tips and tricks, and there will be plenty of relaxed time to work and ask questions. Light snacks and refreshments will be served. You’ll leave with your own one-of-a-kind hand-stitched mini quilt, as well as your quilt kit (valued at $25) which includes essential tools like a grid ruler, hera marker, thread snips, and leather thimble to take you into your next projects.

Though this class will approach hand quilting from a beginner's perspective, all levels are welcome to join. If you're already comfortable with basic hand stitching, you might explore quilting curves, sashiko-inspired patterns, and other more complex designs.

I am so excited to share my approach to this wonderful practice. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions about the workshop!
