Instructions for living a life:
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.

—Mary Oliver

My quilts and other textile work are most often about nature—particularly the sky, the shift of seasons, and the landscape of the American midwest. I also find inspiration in architecture, poetry, abstract art, and the rich traditions of both practical and artistic work in which quilting is rooted. My work is an ongoing conversation with my materials, mediated by the intentionally slow and tactile process of hand quilting.

These textiles rest at the intersection of beauty and utility. I love the friendly intimacy that arises from their usefulness—how art can become so familiar and deeply known. This work is an exploration of how color, shape, and texture interact not only with each other but with our homes and bodies and lives. It’s a way of turning beauty you can see into beauty you can touch, wrap around yourself, use to tell a story as you keep out the cold.

It’s my way of telling you what astonishes me. Thank you for listening.
